about

VEB89 is proud to release the second EP by The Party Machine. Building on the New Beat, doomcore and industrial influences of the first archival release, Compulsory Enjoyment takes the duo's techniques into new territories, with three new tracks exploring a range of moods.

Opening track Active Measures (Live at The Bunker) is based on a recording of a live session. It's one of The Party Machine's first hardware-led tracks and kicks in hard from the start. Manic sequences and siren-like drones compete against relentless percussion.

Fundamental Automation is an icier, more technical track combining the Party Machine's dystopian, low-tempo rave aesthetics with a heavy-duty experimental electro structure.

Nitro Zeus is the EP's centrepiece and is the soundtrack to a video edit. The video features derelict and now-demolished factories in Leipzig and traces of defunct East German technologies temporarily restored to ghostly life. It's a sonic information bomb that delivers a deadly, viral payload. Twisting, constantly intensifying acid lines coil around a superstructure of metallic beats and punchy stabs designed to take control of any opponents' systems.

The grand finale is Shelley Parker's remix of The Party Machine's 2014 counter-factual cover version of the East German national anthem. A-SED Haus was the first track released by the duo and featured on the first every VEB89 release, the limited CDR compilation DDR60.

Hot on the heels of remixing industrial legends Test Dept., Shelley Parker has taken the original choral-led dancefloor track, stripped it down and reassembled it, stripping it of all historical baggage. The result is leaner and meaner, making the track both heavier and more ghostly. Released 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is both a requiem and a party anthem.
